Why I’m Running

As a candidate for leadership of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, I offer a unique combination of experience and values to meet the needs and challenges of this critical position.

Over the last 25 years, my legal practice has included many kinds of criminal cases, including violent felonies. I have litigated cases in various courts, ranging from state district courts to the U.S. Supreme Court.

My commitment to equality before the law is most evident in my work with the Travis County District Attorney’s Public Integrity Unit, prosecuting fraud against our government and public officials who abuse their positions. I have also worked with Travis County's Conviction Integrity Unit, seeking to remedy wrongful convictions when they occur.

I led the District Attorney’s Appeals Team, and I am board certified in criminal appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Through the years, I have cultivated the skills, judgment, and expertise needed to fulfill the diverse range of responsibilities required by this judicial leadership role.

With a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at UT Austin and a public policy background, I am eager to address the administrative tasks of the Presiding Judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Years of legal experience handling criminal cases of all kinds and dedication to justice have prepared me to handle the important work of  the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals today.
